The Half Letter paper size is a reduced format measuring 5.5 inches wide by 8.5 inches tall, giving it a width-to-height aspect ratio of 1.55:1 and a surface area of approximately 47 square inches. Half Letter is used for notebooks, pads, booklets, and any application where a compact version of standard Letter size is desirable. It allows Letter size content to be formatted into a smaller space or for Letter sheets to be trimmed or folded to Half Letter dimensions for binding. Its truncated dimensions can fit better in backpacks, binders, and some hanging folders. Half Letter is also known as Memo or Stationery size. It does not have a direct ANSI or Architectural size equivalent but its area is about half that of Letter or ANSI A size sheets.
