At just 52mm x 70mm, the PA8 format has extremely small dimensions resulting in a surface area of 0.0036 square meters. As the second smallest entry in the supplementary PA paper size system first proposed in 1975, PA8 slots right between PA7 and the compact A8 size from ISO 216 standards. PA8 shares the height of A8 but claims a little extra width to squeeze in more horizontal space. With physical dimensions so tiny, PA8 unsurprisingly lacks any common alternative names. This miniature size sees occasional use for custom applications like credit card inserts, mini pocket calendars, and tiny promotional flyers where each extra millimeter of width over A8 counts. As a product of the stopgap PA series, PA8 was conceived solely to populate the margin between existing sizes with an additional grade, leaving the format with no rich history of its own beyond a simple bridging role. While the PA series faced rejection from formal standardization, PA8 persists in niche roles requiring a hair more space than A8 allows. Though dwarfed by larger sizes, PA8 serves its humble purpose as a horizontal stepping stone between the PA system and scarcely usable A8.
