The JB5 paper size has compact dimensions of 182mm x 257mm (7.2 inches x 10.1 inches). With an area of around 0.0467 square meters, JB5 is on the smaller end of the Japanese JIS B series formats. JB5 does not have any widely used alternate names. Its petite size makes JB5 suitable for applications with limited space like correspondence, invoices, forms, flyers, inserts, bindings, and other commercial printing uses. As part of the standardized JIS B range, JB5 upholds the traditional Japanese “Kiku” aspect ratio of 1:√2. The origins of JB5 date back to Japan’s adoption of the German DIN standard in 1951 and subsequent local adaptations into the Japanese Industrial Standards including the JIS B sizes by the 1970s. While not globally adopted compared to ISO sizes, JB5 serves an important role for precise small-format printing needs across Japan and the East Asian region.
