ID-2

The ID-2 format specifies a card size of 105 x 74 mm, which is approximately 4.134 x 2.913 inches. With an area of 7,770 mm2, the ID-2 is the second largest standard card size defined in ISO/IEC 7810. It does not have an alternative name and is referred to simply as ID-2 or the A7 size. ID-2 emerged as a format for official documents that required more space than the credit card-sized ID-1 format. It is commonly used for visas, residence permits, and some national ID cards that contain more detailed personal information and security features. The ID-2 size was adopted for identity cards in several European countries, including Germany, France, Iceland, and Romania. While not as ubiquitous as ID-1, the ID-2 format provides 50% more surface area, making it suitable when the increased size is practical for the application. It ultimately offers more flexibility in document and card design compared to the smaller ID-1 size.
