Carta

The Carta paper size is one of the most commonly used formats in Colombia. With dimensions of 216mm x 279mm (8.5 inches x 11 inches), it has a surface area of approximately 60,264 mm2. Carta is very similar to the North American Letter size, and the two formats are sometimes used interchangeably.

Known alternatively as Carta Oficio or Carta Comercial, the Carta paper size emerged as the standard for general correspondence and office use within Colombia. Its dimensions make it a versatile format - compact enough for filing cabinets yet sufficiently spacious for office documents. Given its similarities to Letter size, Carta also enabled easier exchange of printed materials and letters with North America. Today, Carta remains an office staple within Colombia, used for everything from letters and invoices to brochures and legal forms. Its balance of portability and ample space solidified its prominence for daily bureaucratic and administrative functions across the public and private sectors. Whether printed or written by hand, Carta facilitates clear communication, while integrating smoothly into common workplace infrastructure thanks to its widespread adoption.
