The #11 Business envelope has a width of 10.375 inches and a height of 4.5 inches, giving it a total surface area of 46.69 square inches. Its maximum enclosure size is 4.25 x 10.125 inches. This envelope is also referred to as the 11 envelope, corresponding to its height in inches.

The #11 envelope gets its numbering from William Irwin Martin's late 1800s system for standardizing envelope sizes. As an increment larger than the popular #10, the #11 provides even more vertical space for content. Its extended height made it useful for holding legal documents, calendars, posters and other commercial content requiring ample vertical room. While not as ubiquitous as the #6-#10 sizes, the #11 fills a niche for envelopes needing capacities exceeding smaller options, without going up to the even larger #12 size. It continues to serve business mailing needs when additional vertical space is required.
