The 8x10 large format print measures approximately 8 inches wide by 10 inches tall, resulting in a print area of 80 square inches. As the name indicates, 8x10 originated from 8x10 inch sheet film used in large format view cameras. Introduced in the 1900s, the 8x10 size offered a substantial increase over smaller 4x5 film. Its expansive negative area yielded tremendous image quality and detail, making it popular for fine art photography. Today, 8x10 remains prized by photographers seeking the full resolution and tonality capable from large format film or digital systems. The standard 8x10 dimensions also lend convenience for basic contact printing. For both historical and practical reasons, 8x10 persists as one of the classic large format print sizes associated with sheet film view cameras. It delivers impressive detail at a reasonably scaled-up size beyond 4x5. In summary, 8x10 represents an excellent blend of large format image quality in a conveniently enlarged print format.
